Three Secrets to Working with Walls

Easily customize your floor plan with SmartDraw's powerful wall tools. You can separate walls to create open layouts before you take a sledgehammer to anything, curve wall segments for stylish designs, and adjust wall thickness to match your specs.

Separate a Wall

In every HGTV episode about remodeling, someone will eventually propose taking out a wall. You can do the same thing in SmartDraw with a lot less dust and physical labor. The Separate Wall command on the SmartPanel and the right-click menu lets you detach the selected wall in a closed room or building. You can open up a wall or completely remove it. Click the button in the SmartPanel then click on the wall you want to detach from the rest of the structure. You'll now be able to move that wall freely away from the rest of the floor plan.

Make a Curved Wall

Are you ready to add some architectural flair to your next floor plan? You can use the right-click menu to change the shape of a wall segment from a straight line to an arc. Right-click on a wall segment and choose Change Wall Shape and select Make Wall Curved.

Adjust Wall Thickness

SmartDraw makes it easy for your floor plan to reflect reality. By default, SmartDraw's interior walls are set to a 4" thickness and exterior walls are set to 6". However, you can change this easily to reflect your real-world dimensions. You can specify new values for each and your walls will automatically adjust. You won't have to redraw anything. Just click Set Wall Thickness in the Adjust Wall palette section of the SmartPanel to the left of your drawing area.
